Walnut Coffee Table

This table was designed and built for a local couple. The owners were interested in a table that could last a lifetime, was small, and was mostly empty space. They wanted to keep the living room feeling open regardless of their small space. Walnut is a favorite among most and this couple was no different.

Walnut is a lovely wood with a wonderful dark color.

I wanted to fulfill the customer requirements, but also stay away from the boring square or rectangle look that most coffee tables have. I was also interested to use challenging joinery for this piece. I thought interesting joinery would really help keep the piece fun when I knew it was otherwise going to be a fairly simple shape.

There isn’t one piece of joinery on this table that isn’t enjoyable to view. This table is truly a pleasure from all angles. From the custom glass with the notched corners to the very detailed upper corners of walnut to the pieces that make up the lower shelf, this table is full of unique details.

One of my favorite (and most challenging) pieces. I thoroughly enjoyed designing and building this piece.

To finish this piece, I used hand rubbed glossy tung oil.
