Punk Rock and The Rebel
Rebel
I love punk. I love the gritty punk, I love the glamour punk and I love the poppy punk. I love the attitude, the colors and fashion.
The attitude of punk really resonates with me. I don’t think I’m unique in feeling constrained (and more importantly self constrained) in our social setting. Punk is a movement that attempts to un-conform. Although many of us don’t dye our hair bright green and style huge mohawks or wear studded jean jackets, that doesn’t mean that quitting your job isn’t a little punk rock. The fact that Punk has inspired all of us at some point is a testament to how important The Rebel is in our world.
Besides the attitude, there’s the obvious fashion. The need to un-conform visually and aesthetically. I’m not sure if Lady Gaga falls into everyone’s category of Punk, but I happily put her in the category. She’s good at making a strong impression, her music videos are truly art (not click bait), and she once wore a dress made of meat. Punk.
Rebellion is a point of interest to me in designing and marketing furniture. I am currently designing an entertainment console with bright solid color tiles (which will be available in different solid colors) to create a piece that has both glossy harsh color (Italian tile) and warm soft color (walnut). You will get to choose how punk you want to be. I currently have blue on my mind, but I’m also looking into sources for high quality orange, yellow, green and white tile. I also look forward to designing an end table to go with this style.
I only plan on making a few of these before starting another furniture line. After all, I didn’t start Blue Rider Design in order to sell out to the man.
